'I Can Only Imagine' is without a doubt the best-known song of MercyMe. It became a crossover hit in America, where it reached the top 20 of the Billboard pop chart. Artists such as Amy Grant and Wynonna Judd ventured into covers. Susan Boyle's album 'Hope' includes her version of the song. The song was previously the first hit in the history of Christian music to break the barrier of 1 million downloads.

The success still surprises MercyMe. “I didn't see this coming at all!” admitted singer Bart Millard, who wrote 'I Can Only Imagine' after the death of his father.


In 2018, Millard's story was made into the film 'I Can Only Imagine'.
