Rarely will the origins of a hymn go back as far as those of this song. After all, the words were written in the 13th century by St. Richard of Chichester and expressed a longing for a deeper relationship with Jesus. Jonathan Wilcocks provided the text with a tasteful arrangement, which can be performed both orchestrally (with a leading role for flute, clarinet and string instruments) and with organ. The choral singing in the first arrangement is particularly beautiful and brings the longing very close. A song for all ages!
