The first Noel
Author(s): Trad. Arrangement: André‚ Bijleveld
Christmas is a celebration of joy, but also of encouragement. Originally, 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' was written as such a song of comfort and hope. The promise that was fulfilled at Christmas means that we can sing to people (freely translated) with the first two lines: 'May God cheer you up and let nothing spoil your spirits' – for Christ is born!' Traditionally, the music of 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' is cast in a monotonous, calm arrangement. This performance does not deviate too much from this, although it leaves ample room for instrument solos, with a starring role for guitar and piano.
